Harris Jewelers in Rio Rancho recently traveled to Antwerp, Belgium, known as the world’s diamond capital, to hand-select diamonds for its customers. The store, a member of the Independent Jewelers Organization, is one of the few retailers granted access to Antwerp’s diamond district, where 80% of the world’s diamonds are cut and traded.

According to a press release, Harris Jewelers makes this trip twice a year to personally choose diamonds.

“Our trips to Antwerp are truly special,” said Janelle Mead, owner of Harris Jewelers. “What makes it truly special is hand-selecting diamonds with our clients in mind.”

The store is also offering a special promotion: Customers who pre-order an Antwerp diamond by April 11, with a minimum purchase of $3,000, could receive a free engagement ring valued up to $5,000.

Antwerp’s diamond industry dates back to the 15th century and its diamond district, the “Square Mile,” houses over 1,500 diamond companies. The city is a central hub for the global diamond trade, with nearly every diamond passing through it.
