Spiegel-Kinsley, a local homebuilder specializing in Net Zero construction, has received national recognition for its commitment to sustainable building practices.

The Structural Insulated Panel Association (SIPA) awarded Spiegel-Kinsley second place in its annual Building Excellence Awards in the 3,000 square-foot category for the builder’s Net Zero Placitas home.

According to a press release, the Building Excellence Awards highlight projects demonstrating design flexibility, energy performance and resilience of structural insulated panels (SIPs), which are a key component in Spiegel-Kinsley’s building approach.

The winning home was described on the SIPA website as a design that “harmonizes sustainable building with exquisite design capturing Mountain, Mesa, and City Light views.” The home also achieved the highest level of Build Green New Mexico certification, Emerald, comparable to LEED Platinum.

Each Net Zero home built by Spiegel-Kinsley incorporates New Mexican architectural styles and includes a 10+ KW rooftop solar system, SIPs, all-electric power, nontoxic and sustainable materials, Zero-VOC paints, heat pump systems, energy recovery ventilators, an electric car charging station, and xeriscaping. The company aims to build homes that produce more energy than they consume.
