My response to US Representative Melanie Stansbury’s MEET THE PRESS interview Feb 4, 2025.
Elon Musk is an unelected, unvetted, unqualified billionaire who has been given carte blanche access to our federal agencies, to fire employees, to disrupt and dismantle agencies and to stop payments violating many laws. There has never been such disregard for the law from either party.
Even though the Republicans claim this is to cut government spending at a time when both the House and Senate are ruled by Republicans and the Executive branch is Republican, they do not have to break any laws to cut government spending nor to preform audits as they claim.
I, like other tax payers are all for cutting government spending. For example, the Government Accountability Office’s study, GAO-21-45 Social Safety Net Programs, shows that 70% of people currently on welfare work full time. Who are the employers with the most employees on welfare? Walmart is #1 with McDonald’s #2. Amazon and our other most profitable mega corporations are on the list of top employers. So why are taxpayers subsidizing the labor force of America’s most successful corporations? Why haven’t we heard a peep about this from DOGE?
If Republicans were only cutting government spending they would address issues like this. And why are they breaking so many laws if this is just an audit? What is really going on?

I, and many other Americans believe it’s a coup, a soft takeover of the federal government by billionaires.
In the coming weeks, pay close attention to our US Representative Stansbury as she’s the ranking Democrat on the DOGE subcommittee. She’s been making New Mexico proud and I wish her luck as she stands up for democracy and upholds the highest law of our land, our Constitution.
