According to a press release, Crown’s two decades of research in Chaco Canyon have uncovered new understandings of cylinder jars, vessels traditionally associated with drinking cacao. Her findings suggest that these jars had a wider range of uses, potentially including consuming other caffeinated beverages. The changing shapes and sizes of the jars over time also point to different ritual practices and alliances.

The lecture will delve into Crown’s research, shedding light on competitive drinking events, food transportation, and food preparation at Chaco Canyon. It is free and open to the public and will take place at the Martha Liebert Public Library in Bernalillo from 2 to 3 p.m.

The Friends of Coronado & Jemez Historic Sites is a non-profit organization that offers various programs designed to connect people with the region’s rich history and the historic sites it supports.
