Nancy Hendricks, Superintendent of Petroglyph National Monument, will present a lecture titled “A Place Connected: Protecting Petroglyph National Monument in the Midst of Rapid Change” on Jan. 26. The event, hosted by the Friends of Coronado & Jemez Historic Sites, will take place at the Martha Liebert Public Library in Bernalillo from 2-3 p.m. and is free to the public.

According to a press release, the Petroglyph National Monument, encompassing over 7,200 acres and housing over 20,000 petroglyphs and 350 archaeological sites, holds deep spiritual significance for pueblo residents and the descendants of Spanish settlers. Hendricks’ lecture will delve into the cultural connections of the West Mesa and surrounding areas that contribute to the monument’s unique identity.

Hendricks will also address the challenges of managing the site within a rapidly expanding urban environment. The Friends of Coronado & Jemez Historic Sites offer a range of programs that connect the community to the region’s rich history and the sites they support.
