In November, National Native American Heritage Month, America celebrates the culture and heritage of Native Americans who have deeply enriched the quality and character of our shared nation. This year, the Placitas Community Library Art Committee is participating in this national tribute by hosting an exhibition, Native Visions, featuring artists who create and build on traditional forms of indigenous art that pay homage to societal values and customs.
According to a news release from the library art committee, works by Placitas artists Althea Cajero (jeweler), Joe Cajero (sculptor), Lyle Yazzie (jeweler) and more than a dozen other artists will be featured in the Gracie Lee Community Room from Nov. 26 through Jan. 2.
The public is also invited to a reception Dec. 6 from 5-7 p.m.hosted by the art committee celebrating participating painters, basket weavers, jewelers and sculptors.
Works in the exhibition will be available for purchase with a portion of sales benefiting the Placitas Community Library.
