Mr. Frank Smith is an honest man running a straightforward campaign for the NM House of Representatives, District 23.

Smith’s theme is “Bridging Divides / Building a United New Mexico.” His opponent, unfortunately, puts party politics and big dollar donors first.

New Mexico has the second highest suicide rate among Veterans in the US. This is a health crisis. This past legislative session, HB 298 was introduced to help deal with this growing crisis. Its goal is to get Veterans and Active-Duty personnel the help they need before it is too late.

Smith’s opponent [Incumbent District 23 Rep. Alan Martinez] is the Ranking Member of the House Labor, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee and co-sponsored HB 298. Nonetheless, on 2/4/2024, our State Representative, along with three members of his political party, didn’t attend the hearing on the bill after party leadership asked them not to. Martinez put partisan politics over bipartisan legislation. Watch the video of this betrayal of veterans.

Mr. Frank Smith is running for the House after successful careers in business, preceded by years of selfless service in the US Marine Corps (he was a boot camp drill Instructor, talk about leadership). He remains a small businessperson. Smith is the change we need in House District 23.

The incumbent has a legislative record, It shows he is ready to accept large donations in return for legislation favoring specific businesses. On February 15, 2024, Rep. Martinez passed HM30, a memorial favoring one specific company. It passed without discussion because leaders lumped it together with other legislation passed on a “consent” motion. Sure enough, Martinez received the largest donation possible for a New Mexico legislative candidate: $5,200 from that very same company.

It’s time for a change in HC23, time for honest good government.
