As part of its 38th season, the Placitas Artists Series is presenting the Hermitage Piano Trio at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church this month.
The Hermitage Piano Trio, one of the world’s premier piano trios according to a press release, will perform at the church at 3 p.m. Oct. 20.
The trio has earned multiple Grammy nominations and widespread acclaim. Praised by The Washington Post for its “power and sweeping passion,” the trio champions a diverse repertoire, from classical European to contemporary American works. The release said “their hallmark traits include impeccable musicianship, a rich sound, and a wide interpretative range, which have made them highly sought after for repeat performances at major music festivals and series across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.”
According to the release, the trio’s members are distinguished soloists.
Violinist Misha Keylin has performed in 45 countries and earned acclaim for his Vieuxtemps recordings; cellist Sergey Antonov is a gold medalist of the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition; and pianist Ilya Kazantsev has won numerous international awards.
“Together, they achieve a rare level of ensemble integration that impresses audiences worldwide,” according to the release.
Individual concert tickets can be purchased at PlacitasArts.org, where the concert program, musician bios, and more are available. K-12 students accompanied by an adult ticket holder may attend for free. The concert is sponsored by Deborah Hanna and Harriet and Jim Neal.
A talk about the program will be held at 1:30 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. visual artists reception in the Fellowship Hall at the church, 7 Paseo De San Antonio Rd.
Admission to the art gallery is free. The gallery is currently showcasing Kay Naranjo’s painted native New Mexico rocks; Judith Roderick’s hand-painted silk art quilts; Gail Sacharczuk’s soft pastels on paper; and Nancy Schrock’s pastel and colored pencil work.
The exhibit is open to the public during church gallery hours, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
