A man who caused two wrecks within minutes along U.S. Highway 550 on Santa Ana Pueblo in 2021 faced a 10-year prison sentence last week. He will serve 3 years on probation instead.
According to information from the United States Attorney’s Office, on Dec. 1, 2021, Santa Ana police officers received a report of a hit-and-run involving a white pickup truck on U.S. 550. According to reports, the truck rear-ended an SUV in the eastbound lane before fleeing the scene. Minutes later, officers received a report of a head-on collision involving the same white pickup truck in the westbound lane near milepost 11.
According to details provided by prosecutors, at the scene of the head-on crash, law enforcement found a gray sedan and the white pickup truck, both with severe front-end damage. Lionel Medina, 29, was found barely conscious in the driver’s seat of the truck, smelling of alcohol, prosecutors said. Officers discovered multiple alcohol containers in the vehicle. A blood test taken several hours after the crash revealed Medina’s blood alcohol content was 0.22, almost three times the legal limit.
One of the victims, according to prosecutors, suffered extensive injuries, including multiple fractures to her spine, sternum, shoulder blade, upper arm, thigh bone, and heel.
Medina was sentenced to 3 years of supervised probation at sentencing.
Drunk driving. Severly injuried the other driver. Two accidents and only PROBATION BECAUSE HE IS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS A MEMBER OF THE PUEBLO OF SANTA ANA. THIS HAD TO BE A JOKE!!!
This result of this person’s case is exactly why I am moving away from this state. I use to love it here and now it’s been taken over by hearts that bleed for the wrong people.
Agree totally with you
