The New Mexico Environmental Department issued a boil water advisory Thursday, July 18 for the North Ranchos De Placitas Water & Sanitation District Water System.

The advisory was issued after fecal coliform (E. coli) bacteriological contamination was confirmed in drinking water in the water system. 

The boil water advisory affects about 600 North Ranchos de Placitas Water & Sanitation District water system users and does not extend to any surrounding communities or water systems. 

According to New Mexico Drinking Water Regulations, the North Ranchos de Placitas Water & Sanitation District must notify their consumers of the E. coli contamination as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours after the system is notified of the confirmed violation.

The North Ranchos De Placitas W&SD Water System users impacted by this advisory are advised to boil water for three minutes before:  

• Drinking  

Support advertisers supporting local news.

• Making coffee, tea and other drinks  

• Making ice  

• Cooking  

• Washing fruits and vegetables  

• Using the water to feed a baby 

• Brushing teeth  

Support advertisers supporting local news.

• Providing as drinking water for pets  

The alert does not currently have an expiration date.
