In Sandoval County, local county elections were mostly drama free but two state legislative races were among the state’s most watched.

In a new state senate district carved out of Rio Rancho and northern Albuquerque, Sandoval Co. Commissioner Jay Block bested former State Sen. Candace Gould. He will take on Democrat Philip Ramirez in November in the district where registered Democrats and Republicans are evenly matched.

Meanwhile in Corrales and Bernalillo, former Dreamer and Biden-administration official Cindy Nava appears to have won the Democratic primary over Heather Balas, while the Republican primary between Audrey Trujillo and Frida Susana Vasquez is too close to call as of publication time (though Trujillo has led all night by about a hundred votes).

If Block and Trujillo make it to Santa Fe, they’ll have a much bigger stage to promote the election conspiracies that have made them popular in Republican Party circles.

What else is happening in local and statewide races?  The Santa Fe DA’s race was closely watched, but no one watched more closely than one man from NYC: Alec Baldwin.  And ABQ voters sent a very clear message to an embattled state senator accused of inappropriate behavior.
