I want to…
How does The Signpost help local small businesses like ours?
How long would it take you to build your own email and mailing list of your community’s most informed and engaged consumers?
How much would it cost to maintain it and keep them engaged week-after-week?
We’ve spent years building our communities’ most sought after list of readers and local business supporters. Here’s what we’ve learned…

Advertising in big Albuquerque media outlets is too expensive and wastes money advertising to customers outside your local area.
It requires you to spend big bucks to reach their entire media market, including audiences many counties away who are not your local customers.
The Independent is the only local news source serving communities east of ABQ. Our local readers are your local customers.
Why print?
- 48% of New Mexicans say they get local news from their local newspaper. If you are only advertising on digital media or radio, you are missing consumers.
- Billboards and radio are great to get your name out, but… no one can take down your website, phone number or read your amazing website driving 70 mph.
- Social media ads interrupt a user’s experience. No one goes on social media looking for ads. They want to comment on the news or find a fun video. Social media ads are good for awareness but they get skipped. That’s why social platforms charge advertisers every 1000 impressions – it takes that many to have someone notice.
- When someone reads a local newspaper – in print or online – they stop to think about what’s happening and new in their neighborhood. And your story gets read and noticed. People have time to take in content, follow your link or read more about you because they made time to stop and read something local.
What about local digital?
48% of readers look for local print newspapers for information – that means that everyone else is going online.
Because we manage our own sites and ads locally, we can create custom ads using your own content (or new creative assets we design just for you) in ways that jump off the page.
Stop being just another ad in a Facebook feed or seen at 70MPH on a billboard.
- Stop buying boring ads. Unlike big ad networks that limit you to static or boring ad sizes that are easily missed by readers scrolling through content, our network is 100% locally managed by our in house sales and digital team.
- Have Instagram or YouTube content but not enough viewers? We can automatically pull your new Instagram or Facebook posts right into ads so your ad is fresh every time you post – and your social content reaches beyond the social network.
Who reads your papers in print and online?
Because we are the only local news source, readers come to our print and online sources to learn about local news, arts, events and more. And they keep coming back week after week.
Don’t take our word for it. Our print and digital readership is audited and verified by independent, third-party analytics standards you can trust. Before you spend your limited ad dollars, you should trust it will reach your audience. That’s why you should always ask for verification of reach and audience data.

Verified by third-party audience data.

Ready to start?
Pro Tip: If you aren’t sure where to start, ask your advertising advisor to walk you through a campaign by a brand you trust. For example, if you are a restaurant, ask how we helped the Range Cafe, Gyros, M’Tucci’s and others meet their goals.

What are your deadlines?
Reservations for print and digital space are due no later than NOON on the Thursday before your campaign begins.
If your campaign starts on Thursday April 12, you must reserve your space (a signed insertion order or contract) by noon on Thursday April 5.
Final art is due the next day, at noon on the Friday before your campaign starts. If we are designing your ad for you, we must have your campaign assets (logo, text, photos etc.) by Wednesday before the ad deadline.
Your sales consultant can help you map out deadlines to ensure your ad starts on time!
When do I pay?
Once your ad is out in the world we can’t bring it back.
That’s why newspapers require pre-payment on all ad campaigns.
How can you help me promote my event?
Pro Tip: If you aren’t sure where to start, ask your advertising advisor to walk you through a campaign by a brand you trust. For example, if you are promoting an event, ask how we help Tinkertown, the Edgewood Renaissance Fair or Meow Wolf market their events to our community.
