Wild Hearts Gallery will present “Roger Evans: The Lighter Side of Art,” an exhibit of mixed-media paintings and sculptures by artist Roger Evans, next month.

The exhibit runs from March 4-30 with an artist reception set for March 8, from 1-3 pm.

According to a press release, Evans is known for his “Far Side”-like creations in three dimensions, placing animals in human social settings to express human foibles. The March exhibit will focus on the lighter side of his work, showcasing both large and small pieces.

Evans, an architect who arrived in Placitas in the 1970s, has a unique artistic style that blends his knowledge of building materials and engineering with his sharp wit and social commentary. His home, a small, mosaic-tiled building surrounded by large animal sculptures, is itself a work of art.

The Wild Hearts Gallery is an artists’ collective supported by 15 local artists. It is located at 221-B State Highway 165 and is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm. A visual tour of the gallery is available at wildheartsgallery.com.
